Vikings Whole Class Reading Bundle!
These whole class reading sessions aim to develop children’s comprehension skills when reading a range of texts related to the topic of vikings.
The three sessions include the extracts/ texts and presentations for the whole class reading sessions on:

Macbeth: Act 3 Scene 4 - The Ghost (Banquet) Scene!
This lesson aims to improve students’ understanding of one of the key scenes in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth – Act III Scene IV. In particular, they learn to make insightful interpretations about the changing nature of Macbeth’s tone throughout the scene, and are enabled to understand how this would have affected Shakespearean audiences.
The lesson utilises a range of tasks, that require students to be visual and interactive learners. It follows this learning journey:
- Defining the key term ‘tone’ and establishing its importance as a literary technique;
- Understanding how tone is used to depict mood and attitude across a range of fiction;
- Reading and interpreting Act 3 Scene 4, and establishing how Macbeth’s tone alters throughout;
- Reflecting upon why this may/ what effect this may have had on audiences at the time;
- Summarising the events of the scene;
- Analysing Shakespeare’s intentions in sharply altering Macbeth’s tone throughout;
- Peer/self evaluating the learning in the lesson.

An Inspector Calls: The Context of the Play
These interesting and engaging resources enable students to build their understanding of the context of J.B. Priestley’s play ‘An Inspector Calls.’ In particular, students learn how to make clear and appropriate links between the social and historical context and the play itself. This gives students a really stable knowledge-base from which to make inferences and interpretations about other parts of the play.
The lesson follows a clear, logical, bite-size learning journey, which guides students towards differentiated learning objectives. Over the course of this journey, they become able to:
- Recall the main events that occurred between 1912 and 1945, through an interactive group activity;
- Remember some key information about J.B Priestley and his beliefs;
- Read and understand the opening of the play;

DT Mechanisms - KS1 Sliders and Levers - Researching!
This engaging and purposeful lesson enables children to understand what slider and lever mechanisms are and consider their uses.
The lesson was originally taught as a part of a series of lessons created to guide children towards creating polar slider and lever scenes, but the resources can easily be adapted to fit your own particular project.
This first lesson helps children to:
-Understand what slider and lever mechanisms are;
-Consider objects, vehicles and tools that use slider and lever mechanisms;
-Understand how slider and lever mechanisms work, including introducing children to the key vocabulary (e.g. bridge, slot, pivot, etc);

Structuring and Organising Creative Writing
This highly engaging and informative double lesson (around 1.5 to 2 hours of teaching materials) helps students to build skills in demonstrating appropriate, sophisticated, and original structures in their writing, and provides them with theories and techniques to help them to organise their writing adequately.
I wrote this lesson because I noticed that there are an extremely high volume of students that approach extended writing tasks (even in their GCSEs) with practically no sense of organisation. Even though they have clearly learnt a number of writing techniques from their teachers, their writing can be extremely short, repetitive, and in some cases the topic is confused. This lesson aims to address each of those issues.
Students learn:
- What structure and organisation mean;
- Narrative structure theory and 'plot mountain;'
- How time order can effect a creative text;
- How to expand using the five key senses;
- How and when to use paragraphing;
- Plan for their own extended piece of writing;

Teachings of Jesus - The Parable of the Lost Son!
In this engaging lesson, students read and interpret ‘The Parable of the Lost Son’ (also known as the Parable of the Prodigal Son).
The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey:
-Defining what ‘forgiveness’ means;
-Knowledge recall - remembering key facts about Jesus’ life and teaching;

Churches - The Features of Churches!
In this lesson, students learn about the key features of Anglican churches.
Some of the features covered include: the font, the altar, the pulpit, the lecturn, the nave, the crucifix and stained glass windows. Students learn about the key purpose of the features, and where they can be found in the church.
Students also begin to comprehend what the features symbolise.
This resource pack contains a comprehensive 16-slide Powerpoint, alongside an eye-catching worksheet. Two extension activities are provided in order to challenge higher ability learners.
